ReferHire claims itself as a website that brings “peer-to-peer social hire networking”. Right after you sign up, you receive tens of invitations from CEO of companies, and Senior Engineers of IBM, and etc. So, it does not take much to realize it is a scam to steal your and your Gmail/Facebook contacts’ information and emails. The moment you figure this, you probably want to close your account, its connection with your Gmail/Facebook, and get rid of it. If ReferHire has already archived some of your info, you cannot do anything about it. But still you can close its future access. I tried more than 10 times, using different browsers to close my account, and it just does not work. It is designed this way, and you are trapped. Well, not really!

So here is the steps you need to take to get rid of ReferHire:

1. Go to your Profile and remove all the information you provided about your location, education, and etc.
2. If Gmail was used to sign up, go to Sign-in & Security settings, find “Apps with account access”, click on “Manage Apps”, and remove access of ReferHire.
3. If Facebook was used to sign up, go to Apps Settings, find “Logged-in with Facebook” and remove the access of ReferHire.
4. Go to Temp-Mail and get a new temporary email address. keep the page open since you will shortly use this address.
5. Go to Account & Settings on ReferHire, and add a new email address (right! use the temporary address you just obtained). Click on “Verify” to verify this new address.
6. After few minutes you should be able to see the verification email sent by ReferHire to your temporary email address on Temp-Mail. Go ahead and verify your account.
7. Go back to Account & Settings on ReferHire and make this temporary email address as your primary email.
8. Now you can easily remove your original email used when you signed up.
9. Great! now you have all your info removed from the site, and your account is not tied to your Gmail/Facebook and your email account.

PS: I usually look up the reputation of such sites before signing-up, But this time, I was just too impatient.
